Celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight

From 24 February - 8 March, a range of events and activities will shed light on cocoa, the role of women farmers, and the importance of a living income for everyone.

Date: 19 February 2020

London Met is celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight, with a range of events and activities spark conversations around the importance of ensuring that all farmers are paid fairly for their work and are able to earn a living income. Running from 24 February - 8 March, this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight takes a particular focus on cocoa, the special role women farmers play in the journey to living incomes, and sharing new stories and tools to get more people choosing Fairtrade chocolate.

The Fairtrade University Award
London Met is taking part in the new Fairtrade University Award in collaboration with The Fairtrade Foundation and the NUS.

Students have more interest in Fairtrade and ethical consumption and the latest NUS survey has shown that 90% of students say they want to buy more products that don’t harm the people that produce them.

The award recognises the various different ways that the University is engaging with Fairtrade and how we support the scheme. Zanda Pipra, Sustainability Assistant at London Met said: “It is important for us not only to support Fairtrade but for our students to understand the impact that the products they buy are having on the people and the planet along the supply chain. By being part of The Fairtrade Awards scheme we encourage people to buy ethically sourced products and understand the importance of ethical consumption.”

Student auditor programme
Being part of the Fairtrade University Award scheme gives our students the opportunity l be trained as on-site auditors through the NUS auditor programme. Find out more and register (deadline for applicants is Friday 3 April).
